Self Discipline

If there was one thing about my academic challanges it would be self discipline.  What does it mean to be self-disciplined?  It means setting reasonable goals for yourself and then doing what it takes to meet them. (Olejnik.,Holschuh,2007) I find myself stuck between the decision of housework or homework, family time or research, personal time or extra reading? All of these things race through my mind not only day but weekly, and i'm left wondering if I made the right or wrong decision?

To cite or not to cite....that is the question

Plagarisim is using another person's words, ideas, or results without giving proper credit to that person.(Martinez, Carlson,VanDam,2010 "Successful Writing")  I think we need to cite our sources because it gives our readers a chance to find exactly where we got our information so they can read more about the topic if they chose to.  It is only right to acknowledge the people that have written what we are writing ourselves. Lastly, if the thought of plagarisim isn't enough to motivate you I don't know what is.

Advantages of being an online student

When I first became an online student everything was very new to me.  I had a lot to learn before I became comfortable with the online environment.  However, being an online student allows flexibility, builds confidence, and develops independent learning.  Flexibility and online learning go together because you can take and work on classwork anywhere you go that has an internet connection.  You don't have to rearrange your life for "set" classroom times, Kaplan now offers flexible seminars so choose when to go to class.  Being an online student builds self confidence because you have to make yourself do your homework, and go to class.  By doing these tasks your self confidence rises because you are completing these things on your own.  The online student doesn't have to wait until the person sitting behind them understands a problem before moving on to the next one.  Online students have virtual classrooms where they are able to learn on their own.  As long as you are an independent learner you have the advantage of being able to work at your own pace.  As you can see, being an online learner has many advantages and over time while working in the online environment you will become comfortable enough to function around the classroom.
